On the 688th day of Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, and Day 181 since the Israeli resumption of the genocide following a mediated ceasefire deal, Israeli occupation forces killed and injured dozens of Palestinians across the devastated coastal enclave.

Medical sources in the Gaza Strip announced the death of 8 citizens, including a child, as a result of famine and malnutrition, recorded by Gaza Strip hospitals, during the past 24 hours.

Medical sources reported that the total number of victims of famine and malnutrition rose to 289 starved to death, including 115 children.

Since March 2, 2025, the occupation authorities have closed all crossings with the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of most food and medical aid, causing famine to spread within the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have launched an aggression against the Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing of 62,686 citizens, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of 157,951 others, in an incomplete toll, as a number of victims remain under the rubble and on the roads, and ambulance and rescue crews are unable to reach them.

On Sunday, Irish President Michael Higgins called for the formation of a UN force to ensure humanitarian aid reaches the Gaza Strip. Higgins called on the UN to activate Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, which authorizes the Secretary-General, with the approval of a certain percentage of members of the United Nations General Assembly, to call for the formation of a force to ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid, even if the UN Security Council opposes it by using its veto (veto).

Higgins described the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as a “tragic period” in world history. He said: “We are at an exceptional moment, as there are three members of the Israeli government who do not care about international law and openly violate it”.
