The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has reported that a political prisoner held by Israeli under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders without charges or trial is ongoing with the hunger strike he started a month earlier.
The PPS identified the detainee as Khalil Awawda, 40, from Ethna town, west of Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
The PPS said Awawda was abducted by the army on December 27th, 2021, and was slapped with a six-month Administrative Detention order without charges or trial.
It added that al-Awawda is also a former political prisoner abducted and imprisoned five times since 2002, including three times under the Administrative Detention orders.
The detainee is a married father of four and has been trying to finish his college degree in economics; however, his repeated imprisonment hindered this goal.
Al-Awawda is also among more than sixty detainees who conducted hunger strikes last year and are boycotting Israel’s military courts due to their complicity with the army.
This is the second time the detainee has held a hunger strike; the first was with all detainees who launched a comprehensive hunger strike in 2012, protesting the inhumane condition and the constant violations they face.
Al-Awawda has numerous health conditions that worsened due to his repeated and continued imprisonment.
Before his latest abduction, the detainee was scheduled to undergo surgery on one of his eyes and hasn’t been seen by any specialist or physician since he was abducted.
