Israeli media published footage on Wednesday showing ongoing construction around the Qalandia military roadblock north of occupied Jerusalem, where Israeli occupation authorities are advancing new infrastructure linked to the colonial road network.
In a statement, the Jerusalem Governorate said the occupation is working to connect the newly expanded roadblock to the colonial Route 45, which runs from the area of Mikhmas toward Qalandia.
The route is expected to extend further from Qalandia toward Route 443 and the road leading to the illegal colony of “Atarot.”
According to the Governorate, the construction is part of a broader set of colonial infrastructure projects Israel continues to implement around Jerusalem.
These projects aim to link colonies north of the city and east of Ramallah with occupied Jerusalem, reinforcing Israeli control through a network of roads designed primarily to serve colonizers.
The Governorate added that such projects deepen the fragmentation of Palestinian communities, severing geographic continuity and restricting Palestinian movement, while strengthening connectivity between the colonial blocs surrounding Jerusalem.
It warned that these measures entrench a new geographic reality that isolates Palestinian neighborhoods and consolidates Israeli dominance over the area.
In related news, illegal paramilitary Israeli colonizers began setting up a new colonial outpost on Wednesday on Palestinian‑owned land in the town of Beit Iksa, northwest of occupied Jerusalem in the West Bank.
The colonizers also established a new colonial outpost on Mount Ebal north of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, with direct involvement from the so‑called “Samaria Regional Council” and the colonialist organization “Amana.”
All of Israel’s colonies in the occupied West Bank, including those in and around occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention in addition to various United Nations and Security Council resolutions. They also constitute war crimes under International Law.
Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits collective punishment and acts of terror against civilian populations.
Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” It also prohibits the “individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory”.
Articles 53 and 147, prohibit the destruction of civilian property and classify pillage as a war crime.
