On Sunday, Israeli airstrikes targeting areas near two police posts and another location in Khan Younis in southern Gaza have killed nine Palestinians, including a girl, and wounded four others, according to updated reports from medical sources in Gaza.
Update: Another Palestinian has been confirmed dead in Khan Younis, bringing the number of slain Palestinians to nine.
Local sources said the strike hit two police checkpoints in the al‑Mawasi area of western Khan Younis, part of several points established to help protect displaced families living in tents and makeshift shelters.
The Health Ministry in Gaza confirmed that six Palestinians, including the girl and three police officers, were killed and four others were injured.
Hospitals in Gaza said the latest Israeli attacks have raised Sunday’s death toll to eight Palestinians, in addition to several others who were wounded.
Five of the slain Palestinians have been identified as Rafat Khamis Abu Mashi, Mohammad Kamal Sheikh Al‑‘Eid, Shukri Sarhan Ahmad Soufi, Ashraf Rmeilat, and Samer Hilal. Medical teams reported that the sixth fatality was a girl who died at the scene.
The airstrike came amid intensified Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip. Israeli armored units carried out heavy artillery bombardment and opened fire toward eastern areas of the Strip, continuing to target open fields, the edges of residential neighborhoods, and shelter centers hosting displaced families.
At the same time, Israeli naval vessels increased live‑fire attacks off the coast of Khan Younis, causing panic among fishermen and displaced residents, though no injuries were immediately reported.
Intense Israeli artillery shelling and tank fire continued on Sunday morning across the eastern areas of the Gaza Strip, generating widespread fear and anxiety among displaced families.
Local sources said the gunfire targeted open areas, the edges of residential neighborhoods, and the surroundings of shelter centers, prompting Civil Defense teams to maintain heightened emergency readiness.
Israeli naval vessels also intensified live‑fire attacks off the coast of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, directing heavy gunfire toward areas near the shoreline. The escalation caused concern among fishermen and displaced residents, though no immediate injuries were reported.
In central Gaza, Israeli military helicopters opened sustained fire toward the eastern areas of the al‑Bureij refugee camp.
On Saturday, Israeli drone fire and ground attacks across the devastated and besieged Gaza Strip killed three Palestinians and injured several others, as UN agencies warned of a deepening humanitarian emergency amid continued restrictions on aid access.
With the killing of the nine Palestinians in Khan Younis, the total number of Palestinians killed since the “ceasefire” announced on October 11 has risen to 702, while the number of wounded has surpassed 1.913, according to the Health Ministry. Civil defense teams have also recovered 756 bodies from destroyed neighborhoods during this period.
The overall Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks has continued to rise, with health authorities reporting that more than 72,278 Palestinians have been killed, and at least 172,013 have been injured, in the devastated Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. Tens of thousands more have been wounded, many with life‑altering injuries, while thousands remain missing under the rubble of destroyed neighborhoods.
Medical teams warn that the true toll is likely higher due to the collapse of emergency services, the inaccessibility of large areas of the Strip, and the ongoing bombardment that prevents rescue crews from reaching many of the affected zones.
