A Palestinian woman and her child were seriously injured on Wednesday morning after an Israeli drone strike targeted them near the “Shireen Abu Aqleh” roundabout in the town of Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Local sources confirmed that the drone fired directly at the civilians, leaving both the mother and child with critical injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital amid growing concerns over their condition.
In related news, Israeli soldiers injured three Palestinian fishermen at the cost of Gaza city while trying to fish and feed their families amidst the deadly siege and massive destruction of the coastal enclave.
This attack comes despite the “ceasefire agreement” that took effect on October 11, 2023. As of Monday, the death toll since the ceasefire began has reached 266 Palestinians, with 635 others wounded.
The deliberate targeting of civilians, including women and children, constitutes a grave breach of international humanitarian law, notably:
- Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits collective punishment and reprisals against protected persons.
- Article 49 of the same Convention, which forbids forcible transfers and the relocation of the Occupying Power’s population into occupied territory.
Since the start of the genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the total number of Palestinians killed has risen to at least 69,483, the majority of them women and children. The number of injuries has climbed to 170,706, while many victims remain trapped under rubble, unreachable by emergency crews due to ongoing bombardment and lack of equipment.
