The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has reported that Israel has killed 83 Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip since October 7 and added that the Israeli army also killed many family members of Palestinian reporters.
The Syndicate stated that it documented the Israeli killing of 83 journalists who were targeted by the Israeli army, its missiles, and shells, in addition to wounding more than 90.
It added that the targeting of Palestinian reporters has, in many cases, has also been accompanied by targeting their families, leading to the deaths of hundreds of their immediate family.
An example of such violations is the head of the Al-Jazeera office in Gaza, Wa’el Dahdouh, who lost fourteen members of his family, including his wife, son, and daughter and his grandchild after the army fired a missile at their home.
Wa’el was also injured several days ago as a result of an Israeli drone strike near Farhana school in Khan Younis.
The Israeli army also fired missiles at the home of Al-Jazeera journalist Wa’el Sharafi, killing his mother and father and twenty family members, including his brothers and their families.
The Syndicate also stated that the Israeli army has also been targeting with live fire and gas bombs many journalists and medical crews in the West Bank.
On December 15, the Israeli army killed Al-Jazeera Journalist Samer Abu Doqqa, 45, who bled to death near Farhana schools in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza Strip; he bled for six hours and next to him was Wa’el Dahdouh who was also injured when the army surrounded the school where hundreds of families sheltered and fires many missiles and live rounds; while medics could not reach due to the intensity of the Israeli bombing.
Both journalists were accompanying an ambulance that was granted a permit to evacuate a family and managed to enter a bombarded area and document the unfolding events; until that time, the area was off-limits to anybody, including ambulances and journalists.
After the two and their teams started heading back on foot, an Israeli war jet fired a missile at them, wounding Wa’el and Samer, before Wa’el managed to walk a short distance, looking for help, as Samer was bleeding profusely, but an Israel drone fired a second missile, killing him along with several civilians and three Civil Defense workers who rushed to the area.
Israeli missiles also killed the father of Al-Jazeera journalist Anas Sharif after firing a missile at their home, while in late October, the army fired a missile at the Al-Jazeera Broadcast Engineer, Mohammad Abu Al-Qomsan, killing eighteen members of his family, including his father and his sister.
It is worth mentioning that the Israeli army bombarded many media outlets and offices in the Gaza Strip, partially damaging or destroying them, in addition to abducting 41 journalists before releasing twelve.
There are at least 44 journalists from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip whom Israel still imprisons.
Mohammad Lahham, the head of the Freedoms Committee at the Journalists Syndicate, stated that the Syndicate, despite international silence and complicity, is working on suing Israel in international courts for its ongoing and escalating crimes.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Jazeera said Israeli missiles have killed 90 Palestinian journalists, adding that most of them were killed along with many members of their families.
