Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), confirmed that Israeli airstrikes have targeted 10 UNRWA buildings in Gaza City over the past four days. Among the damaged facilities are seven schools and two health clinics currently serving as shelters for thousands of displaced Palestinians.

In a statement posted on UNRWA’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), Lazzarini warned that “no place and no one is safe in Gaza City or the north,” as intensified aerial bombardments continue to force civilians into displacement and uncertainty.

The strikes come amid a broader Israeli campaign to systematically demolish high-rise residential buildings in Gaza City, a tactic that has dramatically increased the number of homeless families.

Human rights organizations have raised alarms, suggesting the destruction is part of a coordinated Israeli-American strategy to forcibly displace residents southward, potentially beyond Gaza’s borders.

Lazzarini also reported that UNRWA was forced to suspend healthcare services at the Beach Camp clinic—the only functioning medical facility north of Wadi Gaza. Essential water and sanitation services are now operating at just half their capacity.

Calling for an immediate ceasefire, Lazzarini emphasized the urgency of protecting civilians and humanitarian infrastructure: “In just four days, 10 UNRWA buildings have been struck in Gaza City,” he said, reiterating the agency’s plea for international action.
