The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate stated that August 2025 one of the bloodiest months for media workers in Palestine, with Israeli occupation forces killing 15 journalists, including three women: Marwa Muslim, Mariam Abu Daqa, and Islam Abed.
The Syndicate’s Freedoms Committee documented 86 violations across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
These included extrajudicial killings, injuries, arrests, destruction of homes and media offices, and coordinated incitement campaigns.
Among the most devastating incidents were two massacres: on August 10, six journalists were killed near the Shifa Hospital in Gaza city; on August 25, five journalists were killed and four wounded in an airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
Nine journalists sustained injuries ranging from shrapnel wounds to permanent disabilities, including amputations, paralysis, and spinal damage. At least six were wounded by direct shelling and live fire.
Three relatives of journalists were also killed, and four family homes were destroyed.
The report also recorded the abduction of journalist Farah Abu Ayyash, photojournalist Muath Amarna, and media professor Osaid Amarna.
Six cases of physical assault against press crews were documented, along with 33 incidents of journalists being barred from coverage in areas such as Al-Mughayyir, Beit Dajan, Ramallah, and Nablus, in the occupied West Bank. Three assaults by illegal Israeli paramilitary colonizers were also reported.
Additionally, three cases of incitement were traced to Israeli journalists and official platforms, including public calls for the killing of Palestinian journalists; calls that were followed by actual killings in Gaza.
Mohammad Al-Lahham, head of the Freedoms Committee, condemned the attacks as part of a deliberate policy to silence Palestinian journalism and erase the narrative of occupation.
He called on international institutions to intervene urgently to protect journalists and hold perpetrators accountable.
