The Commission of Prisoners Affairs issued a report on Sunday that detainees in the Israeli “Manashe” prison live a catastrophic daily reality and harsh and painful conditions around the clock, which poses a danger to their bodies and lives.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the Commission stated that the “Manashe” prison is newly established, and is one of the prisons and camps that were established or reopened after the start of the war of extermination against the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023, during which the Israeli occupation authorities violated all international laws and norms.
The Commission pointed out that the prison consists of 10 rooms, two of which are for criminal detainees, and 15-17 detainees are held inside each room, indicating that the beds, as in the rest of the prisons, are multi-level bunk beds, and each detainee has a very thin mattress to the point that it does not prevent the coldness of the iron from reaching his body, which causes him to be deprived of sleep, in addition to feeling pain due to the hardness of the iron.
The Commission revealed that the detainees in this prison are deprived of hot water, and that there are detainees who have not been able to wash or shower for more than a month, in addition to the fact that medical negligence and medical crimes make the sick among them easy prey to diseases and infections that increase all the time, and that meals are fixed, consisting of milk and jam, in very small quantities.
The report pointed out that what the detainees in Mansha prison suffer most from these days is the extreme cold, as there are four windows in each room through which rainwater enters and forms a constant channel for wind. The blankets are also light and worn out, and they lack winter clothes, and whoever asks them for them is punished, and most of the detainees do not have socks.
The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs called on the international human rights, humanitarian and relief institutions to break the silence and intervene with the occupation authorities to stop the crime against male and female detainees and their isolation, and save their lives .
On December 18th, Al Jarmaq News reported that the Palestinian prisoners in “Menashe” prison in the northern West Bank have been carrying out protests for days and have begun a hunger strike in protest against the harsh and difficult detention conditions they face under the Israeli occupation.
