Three Palestinian babies have died due to severe cold in the Gaza Strip, and others are in critical condition, as reported by the director of the “Friends of the Patient” hospital in Gaza, late Monday evening.

Dr. Sa’id Salah, the medical director, confirmed the unfortunate deaths and added that many patients, especially children, could face the same fate.

Dr. Salah also stated that the deceased newborns were from one to two days of age and said that three children are in critical condition at the medical facilities.

He urgently called for the transfer of medicines, equipment, and aid for hospitals in the destroyed and besieged coastal enclave.

Dr. Salah also appealed to relevant authorities to supply caravans, tents, and fuel to ensure warmth for the community and protect children, especially with an approaching cold front.

Dr. Salah stated, “Less than two weeks ago, we admitted eight cases of ‘extreme cold injuries’ to the Intensive Care Unit. Tragically, three newborns died within hours of admission, each weighing less than two kilograms or just one to two days old.”

“Of the eight admitted children, two are in good condition and have been discharged. However, three remain in critical condition and could face death or serious complications.”

“We are urgently pleading with all relevant parties to ensure the entry of aid, tents, mobile homes, and fuel, especially as we approach more severe weather conditions. Our goal is to prevent further deaths among patients, particularly newborn and premature babies.”

On Sunday evening, Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian on his land east of Gaza City by firing a live round at him.

Medical sources confirmed that an Israeli army sharpshooter killed the Palestinian while he was inspecting his land near Sha’af Street, east of Gaza City.

The attack is part of numerous and repeated Israeli violations against Palestinians despite the mediated ceasefire agreement reached on January 19, 2025.

A day earlier, Israeli occupation forces opened fire towards citizens, shooting and killing a Palestinian woman, Hanaa Tawfiq Suleiman Al-Ghouti, in the Al-Junaina neighborhood of Rafah city, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 48,340 citizens, including more than 14.741 children, 9.60 women, and 223 journalists, and injured more than 111,753, in addition to numerous missing Palestinians, largely under the rubble of bombarded homes and buildings in various parts of the coastal enclave.
