United Nations — The UN General Assembly on Friday adopted five resolutions in support of Palestine, reflecting broad international consensus on refugee rights, accountability for Israeli practices, and the illegality of colonialist expansion in occupied territories. The votes came as Israeli military violations continue in Gaza and the West Bank.

The first resolution, focused on humanitarian aid for Palestine refugees, won the backing of 151 member states, with 10 opposed and 14 abstentions. It reaffirms the Assembly’s commitment to sustaining assistance for millions of displaced Palestinians.

The second resolution, concerning the operations of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), passed with 145 votes in favor, 10 against, and 18 abstentions. It extends UNRWA’s mandate for another three years.

Commissioner‑General Philippe Lazzarini welcomed the decision, calling it “a clear signal of global solidarity with Palestine refugees.”

He stressed that the vote recognizes the international community’s responsibility to meet humanitarian and developmental needs until a just solution is reached.

The third resolution, addressing the properties of Palestine refugees and revenues derived from them, received 157 votes in favor, 10 against, and 9 abstentions.

It underscores the rights of refugees to their assets and calls for their protection under international law.

The fourth resolution, on the work of the Special Committee investigating Israeli practices affecting human rights in occupied territories, passed with 88 votes in favor, 19 opposed, and 64 abstentions.

It mandates continued monitoring and reporting on violations against Palestinians and other Arab populations under occupation.

The fifth resolution, condemning Israeli colonies in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, was adopted with 146 votes in favor, 13 opposed, and 17 abstentions.

It reaffirms that settlement activity is illegal under international law and demands an immediate halt.

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Riyad Mansour, thanked member states for their overwhelming support, noting the growing international consensus on refugee rights and accountability for Israeli actions.

He emphasized that the resolutions come at a critical moment, as Palestinians face intensified military aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.

The adoption of five pro‑Palestine resolutions by the UN General Assembly highlights the enduring global consensus on Palestinian rights, refugee protection, and the illegality of Israeli colonies.

While non‑binding, the votes carry significant political weight, reinforcing international law and signaling mounting pressure on Israel amid escalating violence in the occupied territories.
