Ramallah, September 9, 2025 (WAFA) – More than 138 economists from around the world, including prominent professors, researchers, and academics, condemned Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war against the Palestinian people.

They called on the international community to hold the occupation government accountable and impose sanctions and a comprehensive boycott to deter the Israeli war machine.

In a joint statement issued Tuesday, the economists stressed that the famine and widespread destruction that Gaza has been experiencing for nearly two years is not an isolated or temporary event, but rather the result of a declared Israeli political plan based on ethnic cleansing and forced displacement.

They warned that continued disregard for these policies perpetuates Israel’s impunity for war crimes that will leave devastating effects for decades to come.

The statement noted that the past 22 months have marked a historic turning point, during which the concepts of international law, human rights, and international security have lost their meaning, as Israel has destroyed living conditions in the Gaza Strip and threatened to complete its plan in the West Bank.

He explained that arming aid and imposing famine on the population of the Gaza Strip reflects a deliberate Israeli policy, not a byproduct of the war.

He emphasized that Israel, which had marketed itself to the world as a democratic state, was openly implementing a policy of genocide and total destruction against the Palestinian people.

Economists warned that the end of the war is only the beginning of the battle to rebuild and hold Israel accountable.

They called on the international community to take urgent action to end the aggression, ensure the withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and open the crossings to allow sufficient and unhindered aid and supplies.

The statement called on governments to condemn ethnic cleansing and colonial expansionist plans in Gaza and the West Bank, refer the occupation’s crimes to international legal institutions, and impose sanctions on Israel, including a ban on arms trade with it and divestment from an economy that funds the occupation and crimes against humanity.
