The Acting Palestinian Minister of Finance, Dr. Samir Abu Eisheh said that the ministry will pay one month’s salary to the education sector employees. The Acting Palestinian Minister of Finance, Dr. Samir Abu Eisheh said that the ministry will pay one month’s salary to the education sector employees.
This payment is made as the Qatari Aide package has been channeled to the Palestinian Authority, which pledged in February to permanently pay the salaries of the education sector workers.
Palestinian employees have not received their salaries regularly since the economic and political blockade the United States and the European Union imposed on the Palestinian government, one year ago.
Meanwhile, European Union officials said that they are considering the possibility of resuming direct aide to the Palestinian Authority. Diplomats said that the union was studying the option of funneling funds through Salam Fayad, a Palestinian official due to head the finance ministry in the new unity government.
The EU may start broadening an existing mechanism for delivering purely humanitarian relief to include direct payments to the Palestinian government.
