The Al Qassam Brigade, the armed wing of Hamas, conducted a wide-scale shelling attack on Israeli targets near the Gaza Strip on Tuesday at dawn declaring a two-year-long cease fire ended. As of the time of this report, the brigade had fired 30 homemade Qassam shells and 61 homemade mortar rounds at Israeli targets near the Gaza Strip.
In press release issued Tuesday, the Al Qassam Brigade stated that its fighters showered Israeli army posts in the Gaza Strip with dozens of home made shells and mortar shells.
Abu Ubaydah, the spokesman of the Al Qassam Brigades, stated that the firing of those shells comes as part of the "striking of the Zionist colonies" operation in the Gaza Strip, which started today at 6 am.
Abu Ubaydah said that the operation comes in response to "the Israeli army's crimes" against the Palestinian civilians and resistance fighters in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Abu Ubaydah added that the operation is a message to the Israeli army and that the army would pay a high price if it invaded the Gaza Strip. "The Gaza Strip will be a graveyard and a hell for the Israeli soldiers." Abu Ubaydah continued.
Abu Ubaydah said Israel did not respect the cease-fire declared long time ago saying "There is no calm between us and the occupation, the occupation eliminated the truce since it began, we did not trust the intentions of the occupation. It has been proven to the world that the occupation is committing crimes and they are the ones who always begin to violate any calm or truce agreement".
The spokesman warned Israel not to continue their crimes, noting that the Qassam Brigades has not ran out of options yet, and the group still has a lot of power to resist the "occupiers".
At the start of the operation the Al Qassam Brigades fired 20 Qassam shells and 30 mortar shells towards the Kissufim and the Al Frahin Israeli military posts located east Khan Younis city, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
Abu Safiya and Abu Matipk Israeli military posts, located near the eastern Magazi town posts were targeted with 3 shells while Karam Abu Salem military site located near Rafah city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip was targeted by 24 mortar shells.
As the firing of home made shells continued, Al Qassam brigades shelled a military site east of the Bureij town in central Gaza Strip with three Qassam shells. In the northern Gaza Strip they also bombed a landing field that is used by Israeli army drones located on the sea coast south of the Israeli-occupied city of Ashkelon.
