author Thursday November 08, 2007 14:59author by IMEMC Staff - IMEMC News Report this post to the editors

Mrs. Jihad Abu Zeid, a Fatah lawmaker, on Thursday stated that the issue of Jerusalem must be the top priority at the upcoming Annapolis conference.

Her statement came during a meeting with Swedish parliamentarians which was also attended by the Palestinian Minster for Women's affairs.

The legislator spoke of the difficulties faced by Palestinian residents of Jerusalem because of occupation and discriminatory laws, adding that such laws prevent Palestinians from building homes, and punish them with high taxes, while encouraging Jewish settlers to move to the city.

Mrs Zeid finished by indicating that peace would only be achieved with the dismantling of the occupation, and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
