Reuters reported that Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salaam Fayyad, stated at a press conference on Wednesday that the Palestinians will not accept what he described as “a Mickey Mouse” state as part of a peace agreement with Israel.Fayyad added that if Israel’s Prime Minister is pushing for talks just for the sake of talks, without any real progress, the Middle East peace process will remain in its current state.

He added that Netanyahu is indeed pushing for a Mickey Mouse state, and added that Israeli leaders must be asked a fundamental direct question regarding what kind of state they are seeking.

“The Palestinians need to know that before they are pushed into resuming peace talks with Israel”, Fayyad said, “We need to know what we are getting into”.
His statements came as Israel still insists on what it calls “Its right” to construct and expand Jewish settlements in the occupied territories and in East Jerusalem.

After taking office in March, Netanyahu failed to endorse the two state solution, and proposed what he called economic peace with the Palestinians without statehood and sovereignty.

He endorsed the two-state solution on June 14 due to pressure from the Obama administration, but conditioned that the Palestinians must first recognize Israel as a Jewish state. The endorsement does not include full Palestinian independence, excludes Jerusalem and the Right of Return of the Palestinian refugees.

Meanwhile, Dr. Fayyad said that Israel has not met its commitments to the 1993 Oslo accord, yet world powers are expecting the resumption of the peace process anyway, Reuters said.
