Palestinians in the impoverished and besieged Gaza Strip gathered on Monday at the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza to offer donations and financial support to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Even relatives of Palestinian detainees, facing harsh conditions and abuse in Israeli prisons, offered what they could in goods, blankets, covers, food and milk for the children.
Jamal El Khodary, head of the Popular Committee Against the Siege, reported that the people of Gaza, the poor and the devastated, still want to be part of this humanitarian campaign as they are a nation that loves peace and life.
“We were exposed to a different sort of earthquake during the Israeli offensive against us”, El Khodary said, “We feel for the victims of Haiti, and we came here to support them”.
El Khodary added that the Red Cross could not accept donated goods due to the Israeli siege, but was able to accept financial donations.
