A Palestinian security source in Gaza reported after midnight on Monday night that the Israeli artillery shelled open areas in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The Maan News Agency reported that sounds of explosions were heard in the area, but no injuries were reported.
The shelling comes hours after the soldiers assassinated two fighters of the Al Quds brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, in Gaza.
