Surveys conducted for Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beitenu “Israel Our Home” party showed that 70% of the Israelis who supported the Gaza Disengagement Plan last year object to a West Bank evacuation plan, Israeli sources reported.
The party conducted two poll that showed that some 70 percent of Israelis are opposed to the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s realignment plan.
Shvakim Panorama Center conducted the poll under the supervision of American strategist Arthur Finkelstein.
Senior officials at Olmert’s Kadima party said that Israel will not gain international support for unilateral withdrawals from the West Bank.
According to the result of the two polls, some 80% of new Russian immigrants who voted for Kadima in Israel’s March Knesset elections now support Yisrael Beitenu party due to the fact that Olmert did not appoint Kadima MK Marina Solodkin to a cabinet post. The immigrants consider this as an insult to the entire immigrant sector in Israel.
Russian immigrants polled also said they would like to see Knesset member Avigdor Lieberman replace Olmert as a Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the polls also revealed that the Labor party is losing strength among the Israeli public, many of those who voted for the Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz’s party are supporting other parties.
