On Friday, The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported that the Israeli occupation authorities have decided to release Khaled Al-Awawda, who held a hunger strike for 172 in 2022, protesting his Administrative Detention, without charges or trial.
The PPS stated that Al-Awawda, from Ithna town, west of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, will be released from the Ofer prison, where he is currently held.
Al-Awawda held a hunger strike for 172 days, protesting his Administrative Detention, and was supposed to be released in October 2022; however, just before his release, Israeli occupation authorities filed an indictment, claiming he tried to smuggle a mobile phone while being transferred from Assaf Harofeh Medical Center to Ramla prison.
He was sentenced to 16 months, including eight suspended and a 5000 Shekels file.
His extended strike caused various health issues, including some chronic conditions.
In related news, Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras, held by Israel without charges or trial, has suspended a hunger strike that lasted for 23 days, protesting his Administrative Detention.
