Israeli sources reported on Wednesday afternoon that one soldier was shot and killed during the military offensive carried by the army in Beit Hanoun, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

 

The soldier, according to the sources, was shot as he was hiding in one of the buildings in the town. He suffered a serious injury and died of his wounds at the building.

An Israeli military source reported that soldiers spotted a group of fighters who shot the soldier and fired at them injuring at least two. 

The Israeli Ynetnews reported that Staff Sgt. Kiril Golenstein, 21, was killed overnight during army operations in Beit Hanoun.

The Ynetnews added that Golenstein was injured by Palestinian gunmen and was evacuated for treatment, but died of his wounds later on. 

The soldier, according to the Ynetnews report was shot approximately at 2:30 a.m, and was the only Israeli casualty in the attack, and the third soldier to be killed since the abduction of Gilad Shalit; two soldiers were killed when resistance fighters attacked a military base near the Gaza border, on June 25, , and Abducted Gilad Shalit, two fighters were also killed in the attack.  
 
Also on Wednesday, seven Palestinians were killed by an Israeli air force attack; at least fifty others were injured.

Also, several resistance factions claimed responsibility for firing RPG shells at a house that was occupied by Israeli troops in Al Sikka Street in Beit Hanoun.

Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, slammed that Israeli attacks and described it as a massacre.
