Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip reported on Monday at night that
two fighters of the Al Qassam brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, were
killed in an Israeli air strike, in Al Shujaeyya neighborhood, east of
Gaza City; at least four residents, including two infants and their
father were injured in the attack.
Jom'a AL Saqa, head of the Public Relations Office at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, reported that a nine-month old, and an 18-moth old brothers were injured in the attack as they with their father who was driving in Al Mansoura Street, where the Israeli air strike targeted a Palestinian vehicle.
The father of the two infants was seriously injured, Al Saqa added.
Eyewitnesses reported that the air force fired several missiles at the vehicle that was carrying the two fighters.
In a phone call with the Ramattan News Agency, Abu Obaida, media spokesperson of the Al Qassam brigades, identified said that the two fighters are Abdul-Qader Habeeb, and Basil Obeid; both are field leaders of the brigades.
Abu Obaida added that the brigades will retaliate and will fire homemade shells at Israeli targeted adjacent to the Gaza Strip.
An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed the air strike.
In a separate incident, one Palestinian was killed at an Israeli military checkpoint near the West Bank city of Jericho, Israeli sources reported.
Army sources reported that the man approached the checkpoint carrying a pistol; the checkpoint commander shot him to death. After searching the body, soldiers found out that the pistol was fake.
