Ramallah, September 7, 2024, WAFA – Leaked documents from the Israeli Megiddo prison revealed a horrific assault and abuse incident against dozens of Palestinian prisoners, who were handcuffed and thrown to the ground on Friday morning.
The leaked video, which sparked a wave of anger, showed some prisoners without clothes on their upper bodies, and the approach of the prison guards’ dogs, reflecting the oppressive and inhumane conditions that prisoners live in this prison.
The Haaretz website confirmed that the incident took place in the security section of the prison without any exceptional justification, where the Israeli prison guards handcuffed the prisoners and abused them, claiming to carry out a search operation as part of “routine security procedures.”
This incident comes amid increasing reports of the suffering of prisoners, as the number of prisoners who died under neglect and torture exceeded dozens.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said in a statement issued on August 29 that no less than (23) detainees from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, were martyred in the occupation’s prisons after October 7, whose identities were revealed and announced, in addition to dozens of detainees from Gaza who were martyred in prisons and camps, and the occupation did not disclose their identities and the circumstances of their martyrdom, in addition to dozens who were subjected to field executions.
The Prisoners’ and Freed Prisoners’ Affairs Authority recently reported that the administration of “Megiddo” prison has escalated the measures of intimidation and threats against prisoners, especially during their visits to lawyers, in an attempt to prevent them from conveying their true suffering.
During a recent visit by a lawyer from the Prisoners’ Authority to one of the prisoners, she clearly noticed on his features and movements the effects of intimidation and terror he was subjected to before arriving at the visiting room.
The lawyer expressed her concern about the state of hesitation and fear that the prisoners are experiencing, as they fear talking about their daily suffering for fear of revenge.
These violations continue in the shadow of international silence and the absence of real mechanisms to hold the Israeli “Prison Administration” accountable, which reveals that the conditions in the occupation prisons are more complex and more painful in terms of humanity.
