The largest parties of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Fatah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), appealed to world countries including the Arab ones to move immediately for lifting the Israel-imposed Gaza siege.
Spokespman of Fatah in the West Bank, Fahmi aL-Za’areer, said that the Israeli actions on Gaza including the underway closure are intended at embarrassing the Palestinian Authority and extracting more concessions from the Palestinian negotiators.
In a statement, faxed to press, aL-Za’areer called on all Islamic and Arab countries to work relentlessly for deterring Israeli crimes against the Gaza Strip and lifting the ongoing siege there.
In the meantime, the PFLP called for an urgent summit meeting of the Arab states league, at the level of permanent representatives, in a bid to tackle the ‘deteriorating conditions’ across the coastal territory.
In a statement, faxed to press, the PFPL also looked forward a similar meeting of the United Nations’ Security Council, for the purpose of what it said ‘ protecting the Palestinian people from the brutality of the Israeli occupation’.
The two factions’ appeals come on the heels of serious developments on the ground in Gaza, where at least 40 Palestinians, including 8 civilians, have been killed by Israeli army over the past week as fuel and food supplies have stopped to enter the area.
Last Friday, Israel sealed off all Gaza’s crossings completely, leaving the Gaza’s 1.5-million-strong population under blackout, as fuel supplies needed to generate electricity have stopped to enter the coastal Strip.
