In their Wednesday meeting, the Jordanian Monarch, King Abdullah II, and Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, demanded Israel to be committed to the international agreements regarding holding talks on all issues in order to achieve a final and a just peace deal which would end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
During the meeting, Abbas said that the Palestinians welcome the Jordanian role in supporting the Palestinian cause.
Abbas also stated that the Palestinian Authority is willing to hold a serious national dialogue between all factions.
The Palestinian presidents also informed king Abdullah of his recent talks with the Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, in addition to his talks with the Saudi and Egyptian leaderships.
The two leaders also discussed the outcome of the talks which the US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, during her recent visit to the region.
President Abbas also said that his visits to Arab countries are meant to hold talks on the means of resuming talks with Hamas in an attempt to end the ongoing tension between Hamas and Fateh.
King Abdullah said that Abbas’ call for internal dialogue should be the launching point of talks which will strengthen the Palestinian unity in order to enable the Palestinians people achieve their legitimate rights of independence.
He added that international support is needed to achieve a progress in the peace process which would lead to establishing a Palestinian state in the occupied territories.
The Jordanian monarch also said that the Israeli escalation in Gaza, and the threats to conduct a large military offensive, in addition to the ongoing construction of settlements in the West Bank especially around Jerusalem, are considered serious threats to the peace efforts and are considered a threat to the security and stability of the region.
