Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, voiced the hope that peace will prevail in the region, asserting on the need for clear-cut decisions.
In a press briefing, shortly after the Paris International Conference, Abbas told reporters “Prime Minister Olmert, Foreign Minister, Tzibi Livni and myself, have already started profound negotiations, hoping these talks will lead to peace ‘
Abbas went onto saying “we are committed to the road map peace plan and all other related legitimate resolutions’
The President made it clear that if peace is not achieved, the entire world won’t enjoy real stability, therefore, all should keep up their efforts for reaching such peace.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, expressed the hope that the current negotiations with Syria will be direct ones and won’t derogate peace talks that are underway with the Palestinian Authority.
Olmert explained that there is a real danger in the Middle East, which Israel should avert, noting no further details.
The Israeli prime minister also announced willingness to release a number of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails as a sign of good will, media sources reported.
Both leaders along with French president Nichlie Sarkuzi held a three-way meeting today afternoon in Sarkuzi’s presidential palace of Elizei.
