A Hamas leader, Yousef Sarsour, survived an assassination attempt, today, after unknown assailants placed an explosive charge in his parked vehicle in Khan Younis refugee camp, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
Sarsour, who was not in the vehicle, was unharmed while two children were wounded in a nearby home. Sarsour said that he heard a ground-shaking explosion near his home, and initially thought it was an Israeli air strike. He described the attack as a “cowardly crime.”
In related news, an Egyptian driver was injured, Tuesday afternoon, when his car was attacked by Gazans throwing stones as it passed the border road between southern Gaza and Egypt.
The Egyptian Authorities reported that the man works for the local government, and was driving back from work when his car was attacked with stones. Medical sources said that the man sustained moderate wounds to his head and arm.
The Egyptian Authorities called on the Hamas movement that controls the Gaza Strip, to improve its watch over the borders.
The Israeli police reported, Monday evening, that two explosives were located off Ashkelon and Ashdod shorelines. Military engineers rushed to the scene and safely defused the explosives.
Israeli media reported that the two explosives were intended to target an oil platform.
Ten Palestinian civilians were detained by Israeli troops, on Tuesday, and the military served six demolition orders to families during different invasions targeting West Bank communities, including Jenin, Hebron, Bethlehem, and the south West Bank village of al-Towani.
The army claims the homes are built without the permission needed from the military.
