Israeli occupation forces demolished a Palestinian home on Tuesday in the Arab al‑‘Arara area near the Jaba’ Junction north of occupied Jerusalem in the West Bank, displacing a family and continuing the ongoing policy of home demolitions across the Jerusalem district.
A large military force, accompanied by personnel from the so‑called “Civil Administration Office,” invaded the area early in the morning, surrounded the neighborhood, and blocked internal roads before preventing residents and journalists from approaching the site.
Soldiers then escorted military bulldozers that proceeded to demolish a residential structure belonging to Mohammad Deifallah Ar’ara, reducing it to rubble within minutes.
Residents said the army did not provide prior notice before carrying out the demolition and prevented the family from salvaging belongings or construction materials.
They added that the soldiers threatened several residents who attempted to document the operation and forced others to remain inside their homes until the demolition was completed.
The structure, which stood on privately owned Palestinian land, had been under threat for months as Israeli authorities repeatedly rejected the family’s attempts to obtain a building permit.
Local committees in the Jerusalem Governorate said the demolition is part of a broader Israeli campaign targeting Palestinian communities in the northern periphery of occupied Jerusalem, where dozens of homes and structures have been destroyed in recent months under the pretext of “building without a permit.”
In related news, Israeli forces demolished an agricultural structure belonging to Yousef Abdul‑Hakim Hamed in the town of Silwad, northeast of Ramallah in the central West Bank. Media sources said the demolished property served as a barn and an agricultural shed.
Palestinian officials stress that Israel systematically denies Palestinians the ability to obtain construction permits while expanding illegal colonies and military installations, creating conditions that force Palestinian families into displacement.
Residents described the demolition as another act of forced removal aimed at restricting Palestinian presence and consolidating Israeli control over the area surrounding Jerusalem.
On Monday, Israeli occupation forces demolished a 2-storey Palestinian home in the village of ad‑Deerat, east of Yatta in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.
While Israel continues to build and expand its illegal colonies, Palestinian communities and towns in occupied Jerusalem and various areas in the occupied West Bank continue to be denied the right to build homes and property under various allegations meant to prevent the expansion of Palestinian towns and neighborhoods.
All of Israel’s colonies in the occupied West Bank, including those in and around occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention in addition to various United Nations and Security Council resolutions. They also constitute war crimes under International Law.
Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits collective punishment and acts of terror against civilian populations.
Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” It also prohibits the “individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory”.
Articles 53 and 147, prohibit the destruction of civilian property and classify pillage as a war crime.
