The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan (Silwanic), in occupied Jerusalem, said four households face displacement after Israeli municipal authorities issued a final order to demolish a residential building in Al-Bustan neighborhood.
Silwanic reported that the Badran family began evacuating the building in Al-Bustan, a neighborhood in Silwan south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, after receiving the final demolition order from the Israeli municipality.
According to Silwanic, Israeli police told the family by telephone to vacate the building and remove its contents before the expected demolition.
Silwanic added that the three-story building contained four apartments totaling approximately 500 square meters and housed several members of the Badran family.
According to Silwanic, those facing displacement included the widow of the late Ishaq Badran and her son, who has a disability; Enaya Badran; and Ilham Badran, who lived in the building with her husband and five children. Silwanic said a fourth apartment was being prepared by Moataz Qaraein ahead of his marriage.
Silwanic reported that the order also covers a vehicle garage and a small adjoining room with a combined area of approximately 50 square meters.
Silwan has been the site of Israeli home demolitions and efforts by colonizer organizations to take control of Palestinian properties in and around occupied East Jerusalem.
Israeli authorities issue demolition orders for Palestinian homes built without permits. Rights groups and local residents say Israeli planning restrictions make those permits extremely difficult for Palestinians to obtain.
Residents and advocacy organizations say Palestinian families in Silwan face displacement pressures through home demolitions, eviction proceedings, and efforts by colonizer groups to take control of property, particularly in neighborhoods near the Old City and the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
They say these measures are changing the area’s demographic composition and increasing the risk of forced displacement for Palestinian communities.
