Palestinian medical sources have reported that one Palestinian was killed and two were injured on Sunday evening, after being struck by an Israeli missile east of the town of al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.Local sources said that an Israeli drone fired a missile targeting a Hamas fighter, while driving his motorcycle, killing him and wounding two bystanders.
The slain Palestinian, Mohammad Ziad Abu Rezeq, 22, is a member of the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
In addition, Israeli tanks fired three shells into al-Qarara town, just as the residents were breaking their fast, on the evening of the first day of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
In a press release, late on Sunday night, the al-Qassam Brigades said its fighters responded to the assassination by firing six homemade shells into a number of Israeli areas in the Western Negev.
It added that the fighters also fired a number of shells into Netivot, and that the Israeli Iron Dome system intercepted two shells.
Israeli sources said 14 shells were fired from Gaza on Sunday night and Monday morning, and that the shells landed in open areas, in the Eshkol regional council of settlements.
On Sunday evening, Israel said shots were fired at an Israeli military vehicle driving across the border fence east of al-Qarara town, north of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported.
Israeli shells killed at least 30 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, while dozens have been injured and kidnapped since the Egyptian-mediated seize fire was reached on November 21. 2012.
In addition, at least 120 fishermen have been attacked, along with their fishing boats in Gaza territorial waters, and even while at the Gaza shore.
