A proposal by Israeli occupation police suggesting to seal off the West Bank, in order to prevent Palestinians from crossing the Green Line, was rejected by the Israeli government last Thursday. The recommendation to seal off the West Bank follows the wave of violence and clashes between Palestinians and occupation forces that have been occurring in the past two weeks, but it was declined by both the Shin Bet (Israeli internal intelligence service) and Israeli Minister of Defense, Moshe Ya’alon.
Ya’alon’s argument, that closing off the area would serve as a collective punishment and incite further resistance instead of increasing security, was accepted by the Israeli government.
PNN additionally reports that the military does not advise that more enforcement be sent to the occupied territories of the West Bank, and considers the four regiments that have already been sent there sufficient.
