Senior Palestinian officials have acquainted American and Israeli officials with a plan for coordinating the disengagement from the Gaza Strip and four small West Bank settlements, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Thursday.
An informed source reportedly stated on Wednesday that the plan includes coordinating the handover of overall security responsibility in the areas the Israeli army leaves to the PA’s National Security force.
A complete cease-fire during the evacuation process is included in addition to a Palestinian commitment to take all necessary steps to prevent shooting at Israeli targets outside the Strip.
Al these Palestinian commitments are proposed in exchange of Israel’s agreement to help equip the Palestinian National security in Gaza Strip with weapons and other things needed for upholding law and order in the Strip.
Palestinian Minister of Interior Brig. Nasser Yousef said, the National Security Forces have lost their combat capabilities during the past four years of conflict, and that Palestinian resistance groups are better equipped and armed than the PA Security Forces.
Israel has imposed very tough restrictions on the PA security Forces in the past four years in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which did not allow them to uphold law and order in the Palestinian areas as they became targets to the Israeli soldiers.
Many of the security forces have been killed by Israeli troops. For a long time, the Palestinian Police and Security forces had to take of their uniform and wear civilian cloths during their work to avoid being killed by Israeli snipers.
