Palestinian President Yasser Arafat will register his name in allegeable electorates lists,on Saturday morning, marking the beginning of the citizens’ registrations to the legislative and presidential elections.
The National election committee opened a special registration center inside the presidential compound in Ramallah, to allow for the besieged President to register his name.
Around 1000 registration centers opened doors Saturday morning in 16 electorate district in order to allow allegeable residents to register for the coming elections.
Registration Centers will open for five weeks between September 4 and October 7, marking the start of the first stage of running legislative and presidential elections.
The director of national election committee Dr. Ali Jarbawi said Saturday that 2339 local and international election proctors were invited to monitor the registration process.
With the exception of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front (PFLP), all other political factions submitted requests to send representatives to monitor the registration process.
Special arrangements were implemented to ensure the right of around 8,000 Palestinian prisoners to register in the electorates’ lists. The committee allowed registration to go through seconds of kens or lawyers.
The centers will open from 9 A.M. to 5 P. M. in all districts all week days except of Friday.
