Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who is paying a visit to Egypt, said Sunday he is ready to coordinate fully with Israel in the implementation of the disengagement plan.
Abbas made his statement after meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
‘I confirmed with President Mubarak … that we are ready to coordinate with the Israelis completely,’ Abbas said.
‘But we have to know where our feet are taking us, and whether (the disengagement) is tied to the road map, and whether they are complete withdrawals.’ He added.
Abbas said he still waiting assurances that the Israeli withdrawal is part of the internationally backed road map plan for establishing a Palestinian state, not a replacement.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has said that he believes Palestinians were ‘unfortunately’ not ready to coordinate.
Abbas plans to visit the United States and meet U.S. President George Bush early next month.
