Against recent media report on a likely several months’ delay upon the request of senior army officers, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Sunday at the start of a three-day visit to the United States that the disengagement will be carried out on time.
Sharon is starting a three-day visit in the United States where will attend the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) annual policy conference in Washington.
Israeli media has reported that senior army Southern Command officers requested a year delay of the pullout for lack of preparation.
Shron also stressed that there won’t be any pullout under Palestinian fire, and that Israel will make sure that there won’t be any.
Surprisingly, Sharon’s itinerary does not include meetings with U.S. government officials.
