On Friday, Hamas leaders pledged for the first time that their resistance fighters will not attack withdrawing Israeli troops during the planned evacuation of the Gaza Strip.

"There is no point in attacking Israel during disengagement, but resistance is not over", Hamas West Bank leader Sheikh Hassan Yusuf said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post on Friday.

“We are pleased with (Israel’s) withdrawal,” he added.

Also, Hamas Spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri reiterated Yusuf’s position.

“What is the purpose of attacking when they are leaving Palestine?” he said.

“We will continue to restrain ourselves as long as they maintain a calm until the pullout.” He added.
