Nine residents Gaza Strip residents were injured when a homemade shell fired by the resistance at the Gush Katif settlement bloc accidentally exploded near them, according to a Palestinian security source.

The shell exploded accidentally near homes in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Strip, the source stated.

The Palestinian Ministry of Interior and National Security said that an unknown group attempted to fire the shell but it exploded in a Palestinian area several meters away from the firing location.

The ministry said that the residents had demanded that the group not  fire the shell between their homes, out of feat that it would explode prematurely or provoke military retaliation.  

The ministry warned that such acts harm the residents and Palestinian interests and called on the Palestinian factions and society institutions to aid in countering such acts.
