A high-ranking official of the Palestinian Authority’s Interior Ministry was attacked and beaten on the streets of Ramallah Tuesday. President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attack and promised that Palestinian security forces will do whatever it takes to punish those responsible.
A group of masked men stopped and beat Ibrahim Salameh, director of the office of the Minister of the Interior, with metal bars. Salameh 38, was taken to the hospital suffering medium wounds in the head, the shoulders and the legs.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a Land Rover being shot at by some gunmen. The gunmen then stopped the car, forced Salameh out, and beat him.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, intelligence and police are investigating the attack to identify the perpetrators.
For their part, the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades also condemned the act and called for an end to chaos.
