The WAFA news agency reported on Monday that a Palestinian detainee has lost his sight as a result of torture during interrogation in the Asqalan Israeli detention center.

Lawyer of the General Committee Against Torture in Israel, Mohammad al-Shadfan, said that detainee Salama Hussein Rashaida, 30, lost his sight as a result of continuous torture, strikes to his head and lack of sleep.

Rashaida has been subjected to interrogation and torture over the last 75 days, without any charges being pressed. He was placed in a tiny cell, less than 75cm wide, where he was tied for three days.

Lawyer al-Shadfan added that detainee Rashaida needs immediate medical treatment and hospitalization especially after his condition seriously deteriorated.
