Dr. Ghassan Hamadan, head of the Nablus office of the Palestinian Medical Relief, said that the Spanish authorities detained him for more than eight hours at the Madrid Airport without any explanation.

Dr. Hamdan told the Arabs48 news website that after he returned from Ecuador, where he participated in a health conference, he was detained in a small room at the airport along with 60 other participants from Latin America and Africa.

The airport security said that they detained the participants in the 15 square meters room for security reasons.

Dr. Hamdan phoned several Spanish officials and objected to this procedure considering it a “discriminatory” act, similar in nature to the Israeli procedures.

“Such procedures are harmful to Palestinian-Spanish relations,” he added.
