An armed Palestinian group belonging to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of Fatah, abducted a Palestinian security official in al-Boreij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, a Palestinian security source in Gaza reported on Thursday afternoon.
The armed group abducted Jihad Abed, along with his wife and children, but released the wife and the children later on, the source reported.
“The group attacked the car and carried out the abductionâ€Â, he said, “Abed was taken to an unknown location in al-Boreij refugee campâ€Â.ÂÂ
The Palestinian Ministry of Interior said that it is investigating the incident, and added that the motives behind the abduction are still unknown.
Abed previously served as office director for former Palestinian intelligence chief Mousa Arafat, who was forced to retire several months ago by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as part of a reform initiative.
