The Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Fatah ruling party, called on the Palestinian Authority to track down informers and punish them, describing them as a ‘source of corruption in the Palestinian society,’ the PNN news agency reported on Saturday.
The group said in a statement released on Friday that the ‘spies are like worms that sickens the Palestinian body and have to be stopped.’
The statement, which was distributed in the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, also said that the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades nationwide have formed special units called ‘Mohammad Al-Assi’ units, whose main job is to respond to Israeli assassinations.
The statement said that the operatives of this unit will take revenge for those assassinated by Israel and ‘will hit hard in the depth of the Israeli areas.’
The Israeli military establishment recently reactivated the assassination policy, after it had been frozen for some time.
Assassinations are extrajudicial measures and usually target leaders of the resistance groups. In response, affiliates and followers of the victims’ organization typically vow revenge.
Several suicide bombing attacks have been described by those claiming responsibility for them as revenge for victims of assassination.
