Israeli airfare shelled, , on Sunday at dawn, several areas in Gaza including a school which is located in a heavily populated area; at least 17 residents, including a 40 days old infant, were injured; two residents were seriously injured.

The Palestinian News Agency, WAFA, reported that at least one missile targeted Ibin Al Arqam School in Gaza city completely damaging the school and several surrounding homes.

Dr. Jom’a Al Saqqa, head of the public relations office at Al Shifa hospital in Gaza, reported the most of the injuries are described as moderate-to-sever. 

Rescue efforts are ongoing in the shelled areas, while military apaches are still flying over Gaza.

Also, Israeli soldiers shelled Sheikh Nasser area in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, five residents were injured; the shelling apparently targeted resistance fighters. 

The Palestinian Television reported on Sunday at dawn that soldiers also shelled the home of Abu As Sa’id, head of Salah Ed Deen Brigades, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

On Saturday at night, Israeli Major General, Yisrael Ziv, the army’s head of operations, told the Associated Press that the Israeli government decided to carry a prolonged military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Ziv stated that the army decided to carry a constant attack against Hamas members and leaders in the Palestinian areas.

The Israeli cabinet also decided to use artillery against what was described as “rocket launchers”.

Israel also said it well renew its assassination policy against Hamas members and leaders, and will conduct a series of assaults. 

The Israeli cabinet also approved the renewal of targeted assassinations against Hamas members, as well as the continuation of aerial assaults as needed.

Also, the cabinet decided to follow the proposal of the Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz to create buffer zones within the Gaza Strip.

Israeli military sources reported that ground troops were deployed along the border, but the army did not decide to reintroduce ground troops into the Gaza Strip yet.

“The military actions are intended to create a new equation in the areas”, Israeli military source said, “We will strike the Palestinian areas to clarify to the organizations the price of their attacks against Israeli targets”.
