Israeli online daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that some 1000 settlers who were evacuated from the Gaza Strip gathered in front of Sharon’s residence in Jerusalem on Wednesday to mark 100 days since their evacuation.
The protest was organized by the Yesha Council of settlements, in order to “better the evacuees’ situation”.
Avner Shimoni, head of Former Gaza Coast Regional Council of settlements said that thousands of evacuees were placed in hotel 100 days ago, and remained there until this day.
The evacuated settlers, children and adults, placed themselves in gold cages, which symbolize the fancy hotels accommodating them. The settlers held a sing reading;
“Locked up in hotels for 100 days, did you [Sharon] expel and abandoned us as well?”
The settlers screened a film during the protest; actors portrayed the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, and his two sons, Omri and Gilad;
The script as published by Yedioth Ahronoth;
“Omri” said to his father, “Who are these people in the cages?”
“Sharon” replies, “Families that I banished this past summer.”
“What are they doing in the hotels,” “Omri” asked.
“Enjoying the summer,” “Sharon" replied.
It is worth mentioning that the Israeli government offered the settlers who evacuate voluntarily and before the official launch of the pullout, extra cash and assigned offices to relocate them elsewhere.
