Israeli soldiers arrested Sami Awad, director of Holy Land Trust (HLT), and candidate for the Palestinian Legislative Council elections in a nonviolent anti-wall protest in the town of Beit Jala near Bethlehem on Sunday at noon, Palestinian sources reported.

The Bethlehem-based nongovernmental organization is among the active organizations in organizing nonviolent actions against the Israeli occupation in Palestine.

Few days ago, HLT concluded its first International conference on nonviolence, attended by hundreds of International and Palestinian nonviolent activists from different parts of the world.

Eyewitnesses said, troops handcuffed Awad and took him to an unknown destination and confirmed that the protest was completely nonviolent.

Awad was released few hours later.
