Hamas asked the Palestinian former Finance Minister Dr. Salam Fayyad Friday to be the new Prime Minister replacing Ahmad Qorei who resigned on Thursday morning, the Maan News Agency reported.

Sources close to Dr. Fayyad reported that he set three conditions to accept the new post; the acceptance of Hamas to hold negotiations with Israel, to dismantle the armed resistance wings and absorb the members into the security departments, and the third condition is to recognize Israel in order to receive international support.

The sources added that Hamas refused to accept such conditions.

Earlier on Friday, the American consul in Jerusalem, and the former US president, Jimi Carter, met with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah and discussed the ways to form a new Palestinian government.
