The Israeli police in Jerusalem released Ahmad Attoun, a newly elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) from the Hamas bloc, after detaining him for three hours.Attoun was arrested won Wednesday while heading to meet other PLC members in Jerusalem, and was transferred to Al Maskobiyya prison in the city.

Attoun said that the police warned him that Palestinian political activities in Jerusalem are “against the Israeli law”, and that he is not allowed to carry any activities even at the Al Aqsa Mosque.

The Palestinian Maan News Agency reported that the Israeli Police in Jerusalem arrested Palestinian Legislative Council member Ahamad Attoun, member of Hamas, while heading to meet other PLC members of the city.

Maan reporter in Jerusalem said the former Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Hind Khoury informed him that a meeting was scheduled for the city members of the PLC so as to meet each other and become acquainted.

Khoury added that the arrest of Attoun is “an Israeli terror practiced against elected legislators who represent more than 250.000 Palestinians in Jerusalem”.  

She voiced an appeal to the International Community to pressure Israel in order to respect the choice of the Palestinians and guarantee the freedom of movement of the elected legislators.
