Israeli military sources confirmed Friday that an Israeli soldier who died of gunshot wounds sustained during an invasion of the West Bank city of Jenin Thursday was in fact shot by another Israeli soldier.
Initially, the Army had reported that Ido Shapira, 20, was hit by return fire from Palestinian gunmen. However, during the army’s initial investigation on Thursday, one soldier admitted that he mistakenly fired in Shapira’s direction. Ballistics tests confirmed that the bullets that killed Shapira came from an Israeli soldier’s rifle.
