Israeli air-force shelled a training camp for the Popular Resistance Committees in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, killing six residents, including a father and his eight-year old son.
The attack targeted the vehicle of Eyad Abu Al Einen, one of the leaders of Salah Ed Deen Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees.
Abu Al Einen, his wife, his child and his nephew killed when a missile hit their vehicle, four other Palestinians were killed in the strike that targeted a training facility of the Brigades; at least ten residents were injured, most of them were passersby.
The Israeli military claimed the aircraft targeted the car as it was leaving the training camp, witnesses said that the car was not inside the camp. Israeli aircraft fired at least three missiles.
Besides the fighters’ vehicle, another car carrying civilians outside the camp may have been struck, Palestinian security source reported.
Fourteen people were injured, one of them is now in coma, the source added.
The assassination tool place in the area which was known as Rafiah Yam settlement before Israel evacuated from the Gaza Strip. It is located north-west of Rafah.
Ali Abu Mousa, head of Abu Yousef Al Najjar Hospital in Rafah, reported that the five bodies, and ten injured residents, were transferred to the hospital. Two of the injured residents are in critical conditions.
An Israeli military source confirmed the attack and claimed that the targeted areas is an isolated training zone for the brigades. The source added that soldiers spotted a vehicle entering the training zone and were ordered to bomb it as it was on its way out.
After the assassination, Israeli soldiers shelled area in the northern and eastern parts of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian resistance fired homemade shells at the Israeli Negev town of Sderot.
Palestinian Authority spokesman, Nabil Abu Rodeina. denounce the assassination and described it as a “dangerous escalation”, and called on the international community to take action.
