Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated in an interview with the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television that he does not intend to run for a second term in office when his four-year term expires in 2009.       

Abbas added that he would like to give "others a chance to run for presidency" and to allow the next generation of Palestinians take up the political power.

Abbas also met with King Abdullah of Jordan who stressed during the meeting his refusal for unilateral solutions, describing them as not contributing to achieving the just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, the Petra Jordanian News Agency reported.
 

King Abdullah also said that his country would utilize all its international relations to ensure that international aids reach the Palestinian people.
 

King Abdullah stressed that he is coordinating with Egypt so that the two countries will exert the needed efforts on the international level to ensure the resumption of the peace process and to regain "confidence between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
